Kevin Tate
Founder

Kevin unwinds by heading into the Canadian wilderness, looking for moose, bears and beavers, and falling asleep to the sounds of loons echoing across a lake. He is happiest when surrounded by the peace and quiet of nature, and is a dedicated amateur environmentalist and naturalist.

Kevin has a B.Sc. in computer science, with an M.Sc. specializing in computer vision. He has worked in the computer industry for over 30 years, leading teams building products for computer networks and operating systems, industrial design, energy efficiency monitoring, and health care. He is a strong believer in agile development, the iterative development of software, and in 2005 wrote a book about this methodology titled Sustainable Software Development.

When not working in the high-tech world, Kevin spends a lot of time reading everything from fiction and contemporary history to biology/bio-tech and nature. He is fascinated by the profusion of different bird species, and prepares for birding trips by studying bird books and learning all the bird calls of places he visits.

Kevin watches with dismay as leaders around the world make decisions for monetary short-term gain, and ignore the resulting effects on the long-term health of our planet. His greatest desire is to collaborate with locals on projects to preserve and restore rainforests around the world.

Kevin is also keenly interested in technologies that allow the human and natural world to co-exist. He is excited to have the opportunity to advise the Fandroakando NGO on renewable energy options for the community that complement the conservation efforts in the reserve.
